This activity can be done with toddlers and preschoolers. It works on the pincer grip and pencil grip skills needed for pre-writing skills.
Material needed:
- Polystyrene ball (We used the 85mm balls)
- Permanent marker
- Thumb tacks with long steels.
Draw faces on the balls.
Use the thumb tacks to make hair for the heads. My children later did arms and legs as well, and my daughter even added to the nose. Later she pulled out all the hair and decided her face needed a ballerina dress instead. The thumb tacks are obviously sharp so this activity would need to be done under close supervision.
Look at those little fingers working. And the final product is quite cute.
